I have hit a bit of a roadblock.

I've got three weeks left of training for the HBF Run for a Reason and I am in a mental stall pattern. The beginning was exciting. The middle was the halfway point. And now I'm just about there but not quite.

So after Ruth told me that she would be cutting back to the 4.5km distance for the HBF Run for a Reason, it was time to dust off my iPod shuffle and get back to running alone again.

After going back and forth a lot over the past couple of weeks, my best mate Ruth told me something she really dreaded telling me. She was pulling back from the 14km and just doing the 4.5km distance in the HBF Run for a Reason race.

And even though at first I was disappointed, I soon realised what a good choice it was for her. From the beginning of our training, feet and knee trouble plagued her.

I've never been the best in the shoe department (give me a pair of thongs or Cons any day) but it came to a head when I realised I would need new shoes to be a bridesmaid.

When The West Australian asked me to write about training for a 14km run, I agreed without really thinking about it.

You see, I ran my first half-marathon last year as one of the first things I did after moving to Perth from America and I thought 14km would be a cinch.
